Govt assures fuel stability as PM orders stricter monitoring of supply chain
Finance minister rules out panic buying; Shehbaz Sharif calls for emergency readiness and proactive petroleum management

The government on Tuesday reiterated that Pakistan holds adequate petroleum stocks and ruled out any immediate risk of supply disruption, even as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered tighter monitoring of the fuel supply chain in light of the evolving regional situation.
At a review meeting on fuel conservation and austerity measures, officials informed the premier that existing reserves are sufficient to meet national demand. Authorities are maintaining real-time records of petroleum products to detect irregularities promptly, while implementation of previously issued directives is ongoing.
The Intelligence Bureau is expected to submit a detailed report assessing compliance with the government’s conservation and monitoring measures.
Sharif directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness for any contingency, stressing that emergency response mechanisms should stay in place until conditions stabilise. He also instructed the petroleum division to take a more proactive approach in managing imports and supply logistics.
Separately, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the country’s fuel supply outlook remains stable, based on current stock levels and inflows. He emphasised that there is no justification for panic buying or hoarding.
Aurangzeb directed ministries, regulators and related agencies to maintain close coordination and continue strict oversight of stock levels and supply flows to ensure uninterrupted availability and preserve market confidence.
The meeting was also told that austerity measures are beginning to yield results. Cabinet members have voluntarily foregone their salaries, while reduced fuel consumption across government departments is contributing to savings that officials say will be used for public relief.
In addition, authorities confirmed that the country has sufficient stocks of essential medicines to meet national requirements.
