Pakistan GasPort extends LNG support to govt amid regional supply disruptions

Pakistan GasPort Consortium Limited has agreed to extend commercial support to the government amid recent disruptions affecting LNG movement in the region.

In a statement, the company said the support was being provided in response to a government request and in the larger national interest.

The company said the arrangement was consistent with its role as operator of Pakistan’s largest LNG terminal and one of the region’s operationally efficient LNG facilities.

According to the company, the terminal has handled 367 LNG cargoes since starting operations in January 2018 and has maintained operational efficiency, low fuel retainage and stable performance.

The LNG terminal project involved an investment of $500 million in terminal, marine, storage, regasification and related infrastructure by Pakistan GasPort Consortium Limited, BW Group and Fauji Oil Terminal & Distribution Company Limited.

The facility uses the BW Integrity floating storage and regasification unit, which has a storage capacity of 170,000 cubic metres and peak regasification capacity of up to 750 million cubic feet per day.

Out of the total capacity, 600 million cubic feet per day has been contracted by Pakistan LNG Limited.

The floating storage and regasification unit was built by Samsung Heavy Industries and is owned by BW Group and Mitsui & Co..

The company said the terminal has supported RLNG-based power generation, reduced reliance on liquid fuels and strengthened the reliability of Pakistan’s gas and electricity systems.

Officials said the support reflects continued coordination between the government and LNG infrastructure operators amid regional energy supply challenges.
