Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said Pakistan was actively pursuing foreign investment through fast-tracked facilitation measures under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), as Qatar’s Taameer Group expressed interest in expanding its footprint in the country’s hospitality, construction and real estate sectors.
The remarks came during a meeting between the prime minister and a delegation of the Qatar-based Taameer Group led by its founder, Mohammad Al Ali, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
During the meeting, the Qatari delegation briefed the premier on the group’s ongoing investments and projects in Pakistan, stating that work on several ventures linked to the hotel, hospitality, construction and real estate sectors was already underway.
Mohammad Al Ali also conveyed the group’s intention to further increase investment in Pakistan, while appreciating the government’s efforts to improve the business climate and facilitate foreign investors through the SIFC mechanism.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said the government was giving priority attention to attracting overseas investment and had removed key bottlenecks affecting investors under the SIFC framework.
“We are taking measures on a priority basis to increase foreign investment,” the prime minister said, adding that Pakistan offered extensive investment opportunities in tourism, hospitality, real estate and construction.
The premier also directed the relevant authorities to provide full support and facilitation to the Taameer Group regarding its investment activities in the country.
Referring to bilateral ties, PM Shehbaz said Qatar had remained a longstanding friend of Pakistan and had consistently supported the country during difficult times.
