The Shahrah-e-Bhutto Expressway was formally inaugurated in Karachi on Friday by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, marking the launch of a major infrastructure corridor aimed at improving mobility and regional connectivity in the city.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Acting Governor Owais Qadir Shah, along with federal and provincial ministers, legislators and senior government officials.
Built at a cost of over Rs40 billion, the 39-kilometre expressway links Qayyumabad with Kathore on the M-9 Motorway, according to the Sindh government.
Officials said the project is expected to ease traffic congestion in Karachi while reducing travel time across key urban routes.
Sindh Minister for Auqaf, Religious Affairs, Zakat and Ushr Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi said the expressway would also strengthen commercial movement and economic activity within the city.
He added that the project forms part of the provincial government’s broader urban development and transport infrastructure strategy for Karachi.
