Pakistan Railways suspends eight trains over fuel costs, low passenger turnout

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has temporarily suspended operations of eight trains on different sections due to rising fuel costs and low passenger numbers, officials said.

The suspended trains include Bolan Mail, Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, Mehran Express, Chaman Passenger, Marvi Express, Saman Sarkar Express, Moenjodaro Express and Ravi Express.

“Train operations have been temporarily halted due to rising costs,” a Pakistan Railways spokesperson said, adding that services would be restored once the situation stabilises.

Official sources said the recent increase in petroleum prices had affected the department’s ability to continue operations on routes where passenger turnout remained low.

They said higher fuel expenses and weak passenger demand forced railway authorities to take cost-cutting measures.

The sources said the suspension was temporary and services were expected to resume after conditions improve.

Railway authorities are monitoring fuel prices and passenger demand before taking further decisions on train operations.
