Punjab to unveil over Rs5 trillion budget for FY2026-27 today

The Punjab government is set to present its budget for FY2026-27 today [Tuesday], with the total outlay expected to exceed Rs5 trillion.

Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman will present the budget in the Punjab Assembly after obtaining approval from the provincial cabinet.

According to officials, the budget is expected to prioritise public relief measures, health and education infrastructure, while reducing development spending in line with broader fiscal adjustments agreed at the national level.

Punjab has provided financial support of Rs570 billion to the federal government and is expected to receive more than Rs3 trillion from the National Finance Commission (NFC) divisible pool. As a result, the province’s Annual Development Programme (ADP) is likely to be scaled back in accordance with the consensus reached at the National Economic Council (NEC).

Sources said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the key budget proposals, which focus on social sector spending and fiscal management.

Government employees are also expected to receive salary increases in line with those announced by the federal government, while an increase in the minimum monthly wage for workers is anticipated.

The Punjab Finance Department said the finance minister will brief lawmakers on the budget’s key features, fiscal priorities and proposed allocations during the assembly session.
