400,000 industrial workers to acquire modern skills under PSD Fund

 

Around 400,000 industrial workers of Punjab would acquire market-oriented modern skills through Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF), the officials said on Tuesday.

PSDF Assistant Manager Azka Munir and Associate Partnership and Placement official Farhan Shuja told a gathering of industrialists at a briefing at Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) that the World Bank was also providing assistance for the programme under which different industries were being provided funds to enable them equip their workforce with market-oriented skills to improve their industrial operations.

The industries that were provided funds were also being monitored by a third party.

Farhan Shuja said that modern training was being provided in 250 trades. However, it was for the first time that curriculums and syllabus of seventeen (17) new skills were prepared and got approved to meet the needs of the local industry in accordance with the market demands.

MCCI Vice President Sheikh Fazal Elahi said on the occasion workers equipped with the most modern skills were in great demand not only in the foreign countries but also at home. These skills can also enable workers opt for self employment opportunities, he added.

He said that MCCI will extend all possible cooperation to PSDF programme for enhancing skills of South Punjab industrial workers as per market demand.
