Newly appointed Chairman FBR Dr Irshad, a senior officer of the Inland Revenue Service working in BPS-22 has assumed the charge of secretary revenue as well; a notice to this effect had been issued by the FBR in pursuance of the notification issued by the Establishment Division.

The government, on last Friday, had given the additional charge of Revenue Division secretary to Secretary Finance Tariq Bajwa after a high-level meeting. The decision was widely criticised by the FBR officials, resulting in a pen down strike observed in the Karachi and Lahore offices.

Secretary General of Pakistan Inland Revenue Service Association, Asif Abro, while talking to Pakistan Today, thanked the prime minister for appointing an officer who hailed from the Revenue Division.

He said that the charge of Revenue Division secretary should remain with the FBR chairman, as an outsider cannot handle the matters of FBR. Abro further said that Tariq Bajwa during his chairmanship had failed to achieve the revenue target and for the first time in the history of the FBR, his predecessor Nisar Muhammad led the team in a befitting manner and had achieved the revenue target of Rs 3014 billion.
