Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Wednesday asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to focus on broadening the tax base by finding new taxpayers.
Existing taxpayers are already discharging all the obligations, therefore they should not be overburdened, said President FPCCI Zubair Tufail.
He said that the FPCCI has been receiving complaints from the existing taxpayers about the attitude of the staff of Inland Revenue. Raids have been carried out on different factories; entire record of some of the companies has been taken in custody, while the staff was harassed as well.
He noted that frequent raids on business premises and offices while unnecessary audit notices have been sending the wrong signal.
The President FPCCI said that the Chairman FBR has recently announced an end to the raids for one month. He said that the revenue target can only be achieved when finding new taxpayers is prioritised.
