Paxi is launching women exclusive taxi ride service today, Wednesday. The taxis will be driven by female drivers for women passengers.
The taxi service is exclusive on two fronts. It is a Pakistani company hence all profits stay within the country and it does not solely rely on mobile apps to generate business.
CEO of Paxi, Zahid Sheikh, believes that a large segment of the population does not use smartphones hence represents the untapped segment of the market. Therefore the company will be offering other alternatives to avail their services such as setting up a call centre where customers can call or text a message to book a taxi ride.
The service is initially launched in Karachi to celebrate Women’s Day, and represents a step forward in making women feel safe when hailing a cab. The service will be fully launched on March 23, 2017.
The Women-only section of the service – the Pink Taxi will start out with 10 taxi drivers (referred to as ‘pilots’)   in Karachi but the number is expected to expand in the coming months to Islamabad and Lahore. The CEO also informed that the pilots will undergo training.
Apart from the women-exclusive service, Paxi will be launching a motorbike taxi for single commuters and a cab service similar to Uber and Careem that anyone will be able can access.
