Irregularities of over Rs 40 bn exposed in NBP, GPO pension payments: report

An embezzlement of more than Rs 40 billion has been revealed in the pension payments process of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and general post office (GPO).

According to a local media outlet, a special report of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has revealed irregularities of Rs 35 billion during the payments of pensions at NBP, whereas a corruption of Rs 5 billion was exposed at GPO.

According to details, Rs 650 million was embezzled, and an additional Rs 250 million was paid. Dual payments of Rs 250 million were done on one identity card, while Peshawar GPO paid Rs 9.3 million in the name of deceased people.

Reports also indicate that Muzaffargarh NBP made payments on fake vouchers whereas double and triple payments were also carried out. Moreover, the GPO also carried out an additional payment of Rs 250 million without pension cards.
