Arif Ahmad Khan appointed Finance Secretary

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Tuesday appointed Arif Ahmad Khan, a BS-22 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) the new Finance Secretary.

Notification read that Arif Ahmad Khan, a BS-22 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) presently posted as Secretary Economic Affair Division is transferred and posted as Finance Secretary with immediate effect until further orders.

The slot of Finance secretary was vacant after the retirement of Shahid Mehmood on January 6, 2018.

The government has deliberated various names including Commerce Secretary Younis Dagha and Planning and Development Punjab Chairman Jahanziab Khan for the post, however, Arif Ahmad Khan has been appointed to the slot.

Arif Ahmad Khan presently working as Economic Affair Division Secretary. Earlier he had been removed from the Interior Post Secretary due to indifference with former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

On the other hand, Central Selection Board (CSB) under the Chair of Naveed Akram Cheema recommended prime minister to promote 17 officers of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) from grade 20 to grade 21.

Sources told this scribe that CSB has deliberated the promotion cases of grade 20 officers of PSP upon which it recommends to promote Police Islamabad Inspector General (IG) Sultan Azam Taimoori, Shahid Hayat Khan, Imtiaz Altaf, Ahmad Mukuram, Mansoor Sarwar, Ali Amir Malik, Abubakar Khuda Baksh, Dr Najaf Kali, Shahid Hamid, Khalid Mahmood, Khawar Shahrukh, Dr Amir Shiekh, Dr Jahanzaib Khan, Ghulam Rasool Zahid, Ahsan Sadiq, Ghulam Nabi Memon and A Nasir.

CSB will today see the promotion cases of PAS officers, Postal group, Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Trade group, Information group and Economist group.

The meeting of CSB will continue till Thursday on January 11, 2018.
