ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Anusha Rahman while speaking in Davos on a roundtable conference on e-commerce said development of small-medium enterprises is directly co-related to development of cross border-ecommerce.
Rahman said the country was launching a ‘Made in Pakistan’ portal, which will bring over 50,000 craftsmen online, reported Express Tribune.
In a statement issued by the IT ministry in Islamabad which said Rahman talked about measures taken to advance Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Pakistan. She emphasized the global south should be provided equable treatment in terms of offering its goods in international markets.
The IT Minister said thanks to presence of digital platforms had eased e-education and service deliveries alongside e-learning, e-health and e-agriculture are areas where industry could collaborate and work with governments.
Also, Ms Rahman stressed on industry-government collaboration under public-private partnership (PPP) model to attain industrial and societal benefits. She said the incumbent government had setup a E-Commerce Policy Board which was under direct supervision of the Prime Minister.
And she shared that a comprehensive e-commerce policy framework was being formulated to allow small businesses to gain advantages from digital technology. Ms Rahman however said challenges remained and discussion platforms like these in Davos would discover ways of finding solutions to these issues.
She added the quicker a solution was found for e-payments, infrastructure capacities and setting up regulatory framework/credit financing for SMB’s, the speedier SMB’s will get an opportunity to have an effective role in development and inclusive trade.
Ms Rahman emphasized the answers lied in international cooperation, clear intent and effective engagement to assist the third-world countries.
