ISLAMABAD: To gather voter traction, the government in lieu of approval of over 100 gas supply schemes, lifted the ban on laying of gas distribution networks.
This was revealed by a senior government official, who said the government had recently lifted the ban on laying of gas distribution networks, reported Express Tribune.
The lifting of the ban comes despite the continuing shortage of gas being experienced by consumers across the country. Previous governments to appease their voters had initiated gas supply projects in various constituencies of parliamentarians and PML-N appears to be following the same strategy too.
The official shared Sui gas supply projects had two parts, which included external and internal distribution networks. In the external network, areas receive gas supplies from main network, whereas internal network is limited to providing gas to household consumers.
He added the government had enforced a ban on laying of internal distribution networks provided the external network was available. This decision was mainly taken to ensure funds weren’t wasted due to lack of gas supplies.
It was revealed that in a recent meeting approval for laying of gas distribution networks was sought in cases where Sui gas supply schemes had already been given go-ahead and funds allotted.
The proposal put forward was approved by the cabinet and made it more adaptable for the responsible authority to prioritize laying of external or internal distribution networks. And cabinet endorsed that work on both schemes could be carried out, provided where both networks had been given go-ahead and funds provided.
