KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday has sought comments from the Ministry of Petroleum, and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on a petition filed against the hike in petroleum products’ prices.
A division bench was hearing a petition filed by Advocate Shariq Khan assailing the federal government for increasing prices of petroleum products. The petitioner informed the judges that the Supreme Court in 2014 had directed the authorities concerned to fix petroleum prices as per the value in international market but OGRA had been increasing the prices in violation of its order.
Shariq said that recently, petrol is being sold at Rs88.07 per litre, kerosene oil at Rs76.46, high speed diesel at Rs98.45, and light diesel oil at Rs65.30. These prices were too high in comparison with prices in the international market.
Issuing notices to OGRA and the Ministry of Petroleum, the bench directed them to submit their respective replies by March 28.
