Pakistan’s local mobile phone assembly falls 8% to 13.10 million units in first half of 2026

Pakistan’s local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly declined 8% year-on-year to 13.10 million units during the first six months of 2026, compared with 14.24 million units in the corresponding period last year, according to data compiled by Topline Securities.

Commercial handset imports, meanwhile, increased 197% to 2.55 million units during the six-month period. This lifted the total supply of mobile phones by 4% to 15.65 million units.

Despite the decline in domestic production and the sharp increase in imports, locally manufactured and assembled handsets met 85% of Pakistan’s mobile phone demand during the first half of 2026.

In June alone, local companies manufactured and assembled 1.93 million mobile phones, down 12% from 2.19 million units in June 2025. Output also declined 4% compared with May 2026.

Commercial imports rose to 0.64 million units during the month from 0.10 million units a year earlier, representing year-on-year growth of 540%. Imports also doubled compared with the previous month.

As a result, total handset supply reached 2.57 million units in June, up 12% from 2.29 million units in the same month last year and 11% higher on a month-on-month basis.

The increase in imported phones was attributed to possible pre-budget buying and the launch of AIRLINK’s Apple mono store.

The growing share of imported handsets reduced the contribution of local production to monthly demand. Locally assembled phones met 75% of Pakistan’s handset demand in June, compared with 86% in May.
