Readymade garments export reaches $599m in three months

ISLAMABAD: Readymade garments worth $599.260 million were exported in the first quarter of the current financial year (FY19) as compared the exports of $608.688 million in the corresponding period of last year.

The exports of readymade garments during the period under review in dollar terms decreased by 1.55% as compared the exports in the first three months of last fiscal, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

During the period from July-September 2018-19, about 10,235,000 dozen readymade garments were exported as compared the exports of 8,939,000 dozen during the same period of last year, it added.

However, the knitwear exports during the period from July-September this year grew by 9.80% as over 30,912,000 dozen of the knitwear worth $710.210 million were exported as compared the exports of 25,587,000 dozen valuing $648.805 million in the same period of last year.

Meanwhile, the country earned $583.627 million by exporting about 93,472 metric tonnes of bedwear as compared the exports of 93,391 metric tonnes valuing $587.756 million during the same period of last year, showing an increase of 2.89%.

About 49.954 metric tonnes of towels, worth $184.229 million, were also exported in the first quarter as compared the exports of 50,478 metric tonnes, valuing $185.239 million, during the same period of last year. The exports of towel decreased by 0.55% during the period under review.

On a month-on-month basis, the exports of knitwear grew by 6.66% and bedwear by 3.26%, whereas exports of towel decreased by 13.52% in the month of September 2018.

About 9,472,000 dozen of knitwear worth $221.395 million were exported in the month of September as compared to 8,595,000 dozen worth $207.580 million during the same period of last year.

Moreover, around 30,254 metric tonnes of the bedwear, amounting $188.650 million, were exported during the period under review as compared the exports of 30,665 metric tonnes, amounting $182.702 million, during the same month of last year.
