‘Govt committed to achieving sustainable development goals’

ISLAMABAD: Planning Minister Asad Umar has said that the government was fully committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, underlining that the government’s primary focus was on socio-economic and human resource development, besides bridging the disparities among various districts of the country for sustained national development.

The minister was talking to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative Ignacio Artaza, who called on him at the Ministry of Planning on Wednesday. Planning Secretary Zafar Hasan was also present on the occasion.

Talking about SDGs, the minister said that the government’s socio-economic agenda was aligned with development goals, adding that efforts were underway to frame a comprehensive strategy to achieve all targets.

He said the government would achieve the targets through innovative and focused implementation strategies in social, economic and environmental fields. “The government will continue to work jointly with development partners for mainstreaming and executing the 2030 agenda.”

UNDP Resident Representative Ignacio Artaza lauded Pakistan’s efforts towards SDGs, adding that the UN was in the close coordination with federal and provincial governments.
