Special meeting of NCC on coronavirus to be held on June 1

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said that a special meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) on Coronavirus will be held on Monday to finalise the strategy regarding coronavirus for the month of June.

He stressed the need for devising a mechanism of providing the latest information about the availability of beds and ventilators in the hospitals to facilitate COVID-19 patients.

Chairing a meeting at the National Command and Control Centre here the other day, he said that such information would facilitate the infected people to get admission to hospitals as per their own preference. The meeting was apprised that sufficient beds and ventilators are available in hospitals across the country for accommodating COVID-19 patients and most of the infected people prefer isolation at homes. The forum also reviewed the progress on the implementation status of COVID-19 guidelines.

  1. Situation becoming dire, due to general disregard for following basic safety guidelines to stop or slow the virus spreading. Alarmingly, multiple reports coming from most major banks of coronavirus infections among their staff, but keeping the cases undeclared to avoid disruption of operations, thereby becoming hot spots for the virus. Even a DFI, Pak Oman Investment Company, has double digit infections among senior executives at the head office, but is continuing operations with most staff in office, putting more lives at risk. Why isn’t the State Bank or the government taking due notice of institutions under their direct watch? Perhaps Pakistan Today could do an expose on this.
