Engro Vopak begins feasibility study for Pakistan’s first refrigerated LPG import terminal

Engro Vopak Terminal Ltd has partnered with S&P Global Energy to launch a feasibility study for Pakistan’s first refrigerated liquefied petroleum gas import and storage infrastructure, as the country faces rising LPG demand and declining domestic gas production.

Engro Vopak Terminal Ltd said the proposed project would improve access to global LPG markets, allow handling of larger cargo volumes, increase storage capacity and support a more reliable and flexible LPG supply chain.

The development follows the renewal of Engro Vopak Terminal Ltd’s Implementation Agreement with the Port Qasim Authority in June 2026. Under the renewed agreement, the company plans to invest more than $200 million in expanding its operations.

According to a statement, current market assessments indicate that Pakistan may face a significant LPG supply gap in the coming years, making large-scale infrastructure investment important for long-term energy security.

Syed Ammar Shah, CEO of Engro Vopak and Engro Elengy Terminal Limited, said strengthening LPG supply chains and expanding access to global LPG markets would become increasingly important as Pakistan’s energy landscape evolves.

He said the company was well-positioned to develop infrastructure by combining the global expertise of Royal Vopak of the Netherlands with Engro’s engineering capacity and local market understanding.

He added that many mature economies had already adopted refrigerated LPG infrastructure, and the study would help evaluate how Pakistan could align with global practices while improving energy security and resilience.

Engro Vopak Terminal Ltd is a joint venture between Engro Corporation and Royal Vopak of the Netherlands. Established in 1997, the company operates at Port Qasim and is Pakistan’s only integrated bulk liquid chemical and LPG terminal.
