ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that promotion of the industrial sector was imperative to expedite the economic process, create job opportunities and generate wealth in the country.
Talking to a delegation of leading exporters of the country on Thursday, the PM assured that every actionable suggestion from exporters and industrialists will be given due consideration so that more facilitations could be provided to the business community.
The delegation commended the government’s policy and PM Imran Khan’s steps towards exports enhancement. In this regard, the delegation especially mentioned increase in exports and record sale of cement, steel and automobiles.
The delegation members presented multiple proposals to the PM to increase exports and capitalise the country’s potential. The delegation comprised representatives from Overseas Investors Chambers of Commerce, Pakistan Business Council, automobile sector, tanners association, hosiery, fisheries, garments, pharmaceutical, steel, textile, and other industries.
Separately, PM Imran chaired a meeting to review progress on Pakistan Islands and Ravi Urban Development projects on Thursday.
The premier stated that special attention should be given to conservation of natural resources at project sites, adding that environmental studies must be conducted before the start of development work.
He emphasised that development activity in these projects would bring in huge investments for Pakistan and create significant employment opportunities for local people.
He stated that revenues earned through these projects would be spent on other welfare projects in the respective provinces.
While briefing about the Pakistan Islands, the Pakistan Islands Development Authority chairman stated that due attention will be paid to environmental conservation and corporate social responsibility (CSR). In this regard, the project authority is working with international environmental organizations including International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and has also obtained “Silver Rating” of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design by US Green Building Council.
In CSR initiatives, he informed that the Fishermen Welfare Fund would be established for welfare schemes of local fishermen. He emphasized that the development of the Pakistan Islands would be environmentally friendly.
He also briefed in detail about sustainability, water conservation and financial advisory & investment functions of the authority.
The RUDA chairman briefed the meeting about progress on legal requirements regarding land acquisition, investments and construction.
The meeting was attended by Maritime Affairs Minister Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Naya Pakistan Housing & Development Authority Chairman Lt Gen (r) Anwar Ali Haider, Pakistan Islands Development Authority Chairman Imran Amin and other senior officers.
