Wheat support price to be fixed next week: minister

ISLAMABAD: National Food Security Minister Fakhar Imam has said the decision regarding wheat support price will be taken next week.

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday, Fakhar Imam emphasized the need for enhancing the production of wheat. The meeting also discussed production targets of Rabi crops.

Earlier this week, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet had formed a sub-committee to thoroughly evaluate the proposal for an increase in the MSP of wheat for 2020-21 crop after ministers with political and economic backgrounds disagreed over Rs1,745 per 40kg support price proposed by the Ministry of National Food Security.

On Wednesday, the sub-committee had finalised Rs1,600 per 40kg as minimum support price for upcoming wheat crop.
