Karachi Cotton Association says Cotton Exchange closure continues despite Sindh High Court order
KCA says seven-month sealing has halted operations, disrupted tenants and blocked access to documents and computers

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) has raised concern over the continued closure of the Cotton Exchange Building despite a Sindh High Court order allowing it to retain possession of the property and resume business activities.
On June 18, the Sindh High Court ruled that the KCA should continue to occupy the premises and conduct its operations without interference. However, the association said the court’s decision had not yet been implemented.
The Evacuee Trust Property Board sealed the building on December 12, 2025.
KCA Secretary-General Aftab Ahmed said the seven-month closure, along with the seizure of documents and computers, had stopped the association’s administrative work and disrupted the businesses of tenants operating from the building.
The affected tenants include cotton traders, ginners, spinners and exporters.
The association said the closure had caused financial losses to the KCA and its stakeholders and affected activity across the cotton value chain.
Established in 1933, the KCA performs several market-related functions, including publishing official daily cotton spot rates, providing arbitration services for buyers and sellers, testing cotton samples and offering technical training for the cotton trade and textile industry.
