KARACHI: Flight Lieutenant (r) Khaqan Murtaza on Monday assumed the charge as director general of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The CAA on Friday last announced the appointment of Murtaza for the authority’s long-overdue vacancy of director general. Murtaza had previously served as managing director of Utility Stores Corporation (USC) as well.
The notification of his appointment read that Murtaza “shall remain in this position until further notice”.
Meanwhile, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik has felicitated the newly appointed DG CAA and wished him well for the job ahead.
Khaqan Murtaza is a BS-21 officer who was earlier serving with the Sindh government as principal secretary to the Sindh governor. The position of DG CAA had been vacant since March 2018.
Last week, the attorney general had assured the Islamabad High Court that the government would be appointing a full time DG CAA within three days. On the same day, the IHC had declared that giving additional charge of DG CAA to the aviation secretary was “illegal”.
