Chinese investors expressed interest in establishing an electric bike manufacturing plant in Punjab.
During a meeting with Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain at the Punjab Investment Board, the delegation also discussed cooperation in technical education, the IT sector, and the electric business.
Chaudhry Shafay Hussain emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting electric vehicles to reduce environmental pollution. He announced that the government is distributing 10,000 electric bikes to university and college students, and assured the Chinese investors of full support in setting up their plant in Punjab. He highlighted the robust industrial infrastructure available in the province’s industrial estates, particularly in the special economic zones, where investors are offered special incentives.
The minister further revealed that the Punjab government is working to promote solar energy, with plans to establish a solar panel manufacturing factory this year and transition industrial estates to solar power. He stressed the importance of strengthening economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
Chaudhry Shafay also mentioned ongoing efforts to improve the quality of technical education and upgrade Tevta institutions, welcoming Chinese collaboration in this area. Niko Chan, CEO of the Chinese company, expressed keen interest in partnering with local companies in the electric business. He confirmed plans to set up an electric bike plant in Punjab along with charging stations, and requested six kanals of land for a research center.
Officials from various Chinese companies and the Punjab Investment Board were also present at the meeting.
