OpenAI announced that it has released its video creation AI model, called Sora, to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users.
This expands OpenAI’s focus on multimodal AI technologies.
The Microsoft-backed company, known for launching ChatGPT in November 2022, is competing with similar text-to-video tools from Meta, Google, and Stability AI. Sora was first introduced in February but was only available to safety testers during its research preview.
It is now accessible as Sora Turbo at no extra cost for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users.
“We’re working on tailored pricing for different types of users, which we plan to make available early next year,” OpenAI said in a blog post.
Users can create videos up to 20 seconds long, in 1080p resolution, and in widescreen, vertical, or square formats. However, Sora will not be available in EU countries, Switzerland, and the UK at this time, but it will be accessible in other regions where ChatGPT is available.
OpenAI said it will block harmful uses of Sora, including child abuse content and sexual deepfakes, to prevent misuse. “Uploads of people will be limited at launch, but we intend to roll the feature out to more users as we refine our deepfake mitigations,” the company added.
