KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has called on Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to allocate Rs1,500 billion for Karachi, stating that the city’s issues cannot be resolved with Rs15 billion.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, he urged MQM to secure federal funds for Karachi and work collectively on the city’s development.
Wahab identified water scarcity as Karachi’s most critical issue, questioning how Farooq Sattar would address the crisis. He noted that Lahore has underground sweet water, while Karachi lacks such a resource, making direct comparisons between the cities unrealistic.
Addressing urban infrastructure, the mayor stated that work is underway on 106 KMC roads, along with internal roads. He emphasized that development funds are allocated to other cities more than Karachi and urged federal authorities to expand infrastructure investments, including a motorway from Sukkur to Hyderabad.
Wahab stated that Karachi’s problems cannot be solved through speeches and press conferences and called for political cooperation to address the city’s challenges. He assured that Karachi’s administration remains open to discussions with all political parties to improve urban services.
