Lucky Cement raises annual production capacity to 15.6 million tons with Karachi plant expansion

Lucky Cement has expanded its annual cement production capacity to 15.6 million tons after completing a capacity enhancement and process optimisation project at its Karachi plant, the company announced on Wednesday.

The listed cement manufacturer informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that the upgrade has increased the Karachi facility's annual production capacity by around 300,000 tons, lifting output from 5.05 million tons to 5.35 million tons.

With the latest expansion, Lucky Cement's combined production capacity across its plants has reached 15.6 million tons per year, further consolidating its position as Pakistan's largest cement manufacturer.

Rather than adding a new production line, the company said the increase was achieved by modernising and optimising its existing cement lines, allowing it to produce more efficiently using its current infrastructure.

Lucky Cement said the project is expected to deliver operational benefits beyond higher production volumes. It expects improved thermal efficiency, lower specific fuel consumption and reduced coal usage for each ton of cement produced, measures that are also projected to lower the carbon intensity of its manufacturing operations and improve overall resource efficiency.

The company said the initiative reflects its long-term strategy of introducing more efficient manufacturing processes, generating sustainable value for shareholders and contributing to Pakistan's industrial growth while advancing its sustainability objectives.

Established in 1993, Lucky Cement is the flagship company of the Yunus Brothers Group. It operates cement manufacturing plants in Karachi and District Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while maintaining liaison offices in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Multan, Dera Ismail Khan and Peshawar. The company exports cement to markets across the Far East, the Middle East, Africa, and South and Central Asia.

In addition to cement manufacturing, Lucky Cement has expanded its footprint through subsidiaries with investments in power generation, automobiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and mobile phone assembly.
