Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that locally producing high-quality medical devices would open new opportunities for Pakistan, contributing to economic growth and employment.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the AlnnoVent AVB-100, an advanced ICU ventilator developed by Alsons Group, the minister highlighted the significance of self-reliance in the healthcare sector. The new ventilator is designed to enhance intensive care units (ICUs) by addressing the growing demand for life-saving equipment.
The Minister for Industries stressed that local manufacturing would not only strengthen Pakistan’s healthcare infrastructure but also position the country as a competitive player in the global medical technology market. He noted that Pakistan currently spends nearly $2 billion annually on importing biomedical devices, including essential medical equipment.
Reflecting on the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic due to shortages of life-saving equipment, he stated that developing advanced medical technology locally would ensure quicker emergency response and self-sufficiency in critical supplies.Â
He further underscored the government’s vision of continued investment in research, development, and infrastructure, expressing confidence that such initiatives would pave the way for Pakistan to emerge as a leader in medical device manufacturing.
