NHA raises toll tax up to 50pc across highways, motorways

Second increase in under three months takes effect from April 1

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has revised toll tax rates for various categories of vehicles, increasing them by 15% to 50%, effective April 1 — the second hike since January this year.

The revised rates apply to national highways as well as major motorways including M1, M3, M4, M5, M14 and E35. The last toll adjustment was made on January 5.

Under the new rates, toll for cars has increased from Rs60 to Rs70 and for vans and jeeps from Rs100 to Rs150. Bus tolls are now Rs250, up from Rs200, while 2-3 axle trucks are charged Rs300 and articulated trucks Rs550, both up by Rs50.

On the M1 Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway, car tolls are now Rs550, wagons Rs850, minibuses Rs1,150, buses Rs1,650, 2-3 axle trucks Rs2,150 and articulated trucks Rs2,650. Toll for cars on the M3 Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway has risen from Rs700 to Rs800.

The toll for cars on the M4 Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad-Multan Motorway has gone up from Rs950 to Rs1,050. On the M5 Multan-Sukkur Motorway, it is now Rs1,200, up from Rs1,100. The M14 Dera Ismail Khan-Hakla route toll rose to Rs650, while the E35 Hasan Abdal-Havelian-Mansehra toll increased to Rs300.

For larger commercial vehicles, revised tolls now range from Rs850 to Rs5,750, varying by type and route. The NHA has not issued a detailed explanation for the hike, but officials indicated that such revisions are made in line with infrastructure and maintenance cost adjustments.
