U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday he is not considering a pause on tariffs to allow for negotiations with trading partners, reaffirming his administration’s aggressive stance on trade.
Speaking at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said, “We’re not looking at that. We have many, many countries coming to negotiate deals with us, and they’re going to be fair deals. In certain cases, they’re going to be paying substantial tariffs.”
Trump added that he would engage in discussions with China, Japan, and other nations but maintained pressure on Beijing. He reiterated his threat to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports if China proceeds with its planned 34% retaliatory tariff on U.S. goods.
The comments come as tensions escalate between Washington and key trading partners over a series of tariffs introduced by the U.S. administration.
