Sindh approves Rs12.5 billion for 20 new development schemes across key sectors

Schemes, including healthcare, irrigation, agriculture, and infrastructure projects, are aimed at enhancing provincial services and connectivity

The Sindh Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has given the green light to 20 new development projects worth Rs12.5 billion, aimed at boosting provincial growth in key sectors.

The approval was granted during a high-level meeting chaired by Najam Ahmed Shah, Chairperson of the Planning and Development Board.

The projects span a range of vital sectors, including health, irrigation, agriculture, and infrastructure, with the majority—16 in total—under the works and services department. The health department secured two schemes, while one project each was allocated to the irrigation and agriculture sectors.

Among the key initiatives approved is the construction of a medical complex near Razzaqabad in Bin Qasim Town, Karachi, along the National Highway. The Rs1.43 billion project will enhance healthcare access for local residents.

In the irrigation sector, a pilot project for on-farm water drainage has been approved, with a budget of Rs330 million. This initiative aims to improve agricultural productivity through better water management practices.

Infrastructure projects also feature prominently, including a Rs315 million road reconditioning project from Ghotki Feeder Canal RD 17 (Waris Pull) to Mureed Shakh RD 44. Another significant project is a Rs1.05 billion bypass connecting Yarodero (Waggan-Warrah Road) to the Indus Highway (N-55), improving regional connectivity.

Further infrastructure development includes a Rs1.37 billion bridge at Gaddani Phatak in Sukkur, which will also involve realignment and construction work on Qureshi Road, spanning 4.2 kilometres.

Additionally, a revised scheme for cement concrete lining on the Nara Canal’s head reach, with an increased allocation of Rs4.29 billion, was approved. The upgrade is expected to reduce water seepage and improve irrigation efficiency in the region.
