Seven weeks have passed since the Central Selection Board (CSB) meeting, but the Board’s recommendations for promotions have yet to receive approval, leaving over 700 bureaucrats in Grades 19 and 20 anxious about their future, The News reported.
These officers, who were recommended for promotions to Grade 20 and 21, are growing increasingly concerned as they await a final decision.
The CSB meeting, chaired by Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Akhtar Nawaz Satti, took place from March 11 to 14, 2025. During the meeting, the Board finalised recommendations for the promotion of numerous officers to higher grades.
However, despite the meeting having concluded over a month ago, the approval process remains stalled.
According to officials from the Establishment Division, the minutes of the meeting have already been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office for review and approval. Once the prime minister approves the recommendations, the notifications regarding the promotions will be issued, and a large-scale reshuffling of bureaucratic appointments will follow.
The CSB meeting, which had been postponed for a year and a half, marked an important step in bureaucratic promotions. However, the delay in the approval of the promotion summaries is creating uncertainty among officers who have been waiting for this advancement in their careers.
Following the approvals, extensive appointments and transfers are expected within the bureaucracy as officers are moved into new roles in their respective grades.
