President Zardari marks 74 years of Pakistan-China ties, reaffirms strategic partnership

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday congratulated the governments and peoples of Pakistan and China on the 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to deepening bilateral economic, technological, and strategic cooperation.

In a statement marking the occasion, the president said Pakistan valued its longstanding ties with China, calling them a “cornerstone” of the country’s foreign policy. He described the relationship as a “comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership” and reiterated Pakistan’s support for the “One China” policy.

President Zardari acknowledged China’s consistent support for Pakistan in times of need and its contributions to the country’s economic, social, and defence development. He singled out the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a key area of collaboration, noting its impact on Pakistan’s infrastructure, energy, and connectivity sectors.

“Pakistan-China relations are anchored in mutual trust, respect, and goodwill,” he said, adding that both countries are committed to regional peace, stability, and shared prosperity.

The president said Pakistan looks forward to expanding cooperation in sectors including trade, defence, education, and technology. He also extended best wishes to China’s leadership and people on the anniversary.
