ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday emphasized the need for integrating financial, revenue, and production policies to support Pakistan’s economic development, during a meeting with British economist Professor Stefan Dercon.
Highlighting the importance of policy alignment, Shehbaz Sharif stated that achieving the right balance across sectors is essential for promoting business and driving export growth.
Recalling Pakistan’s past position as a key goods-exporting country, Sharif said, “We want to bring Pakistan to that position again.” He stressed that reforms in the economic system were necessary to boost exports and ensure long-term growth.
Professor Dercon expressed support for the direction of Pakistan’s economic policies and reforms. He particularly noted the government’s tariff rationalization efforts and cited improving sentiment among foreign investors.
The meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Power Minister Awais Khan Leghari, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, and senior officials from relevant departments.
