Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said Pakistan is prepared to receive $2 billion in investment from Azerbaijan across multiple sectors.
The announcement came during an interview with Azerbaijan TV, recorded ahead of the Prime Minister’s departure from Lachin to Dushanbe after concluding a three-day visit.
Sharif said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed the investment commitment during their recent meeting. “President Ilham Aliyev again reiterated his commitment to invest $2 billion in Pakistan. We are ready for this investment for mutual benefits,” he said.
The two leaders discussed expanding cooperation in trade, commerce, and investment. Future areas of collaboration include defence production, education, health, and other key sectors, according to the Prime Minister.
Sharif also attended Azerbaijan’s Independence Day ceremony on May 28. He noted the date coincides with Pakistan’s nuclear tests in 1998, marking its strategic milestone.
The Prime Minister described Azerbaijan as a key partner in the region and said the two countries would continue to strengthen bilateral ties through increased economic engagement.
