Balochistan sets up climate change fund to tackle environmental impacts, promote sustainable development

Initiative is part of the provincial government's broader commitment to environmental conservation

The Balochistan government has approved the establishment of a climate change fund, aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change and supporting sustainable development in the province.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti gave the green light for the initiative on Wednesday, describing it as a vital and timely step to address environmental challenges.

The Balochistan Climate Change Fund will focus on implementing practical measures to provide a healthier and safer environment for the people of the province.

According to CM Bugti, the fund will primarily focus on promoting climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, conserving natural resources, and restoring ecosystems using nature-based solutions.

The initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader commitment to environmental conservation, which has been prioritized as a key aspect of its sustainable development agenda. Officials have expressed hope that the fund will help raise environmental awareness in the province and play a significant role in restoring ecological balance.

Environmental experts have welcomed the creation of the fund, noting its potential to address the region’s growing environmental challenges. The fund is expected to provide a structured approach to managing climate risks and supporting nature-compatible development.

In addition to the climate change fund, Chief Minister Bugti announced that the provincial government is preparing a budget for the upcoming financial year that will focus on addressing both socioeconomic and environmental challenges. The budget will prioritize public welfare, education, healthcare, employment, and integrated development projects, with an emphasis on transparency, good governance, and the efficient use of resources.

CM Bugti reassured coalition partners that the budget would be realistic and aligned with the province’s priorities, ensuring the needs of Balochistan’s people are met while promoting sustainable development.
