Sindh sets new minimum wage at Rs40,000, boosts rates for skilled workers

New wage structure effective July 1 applies to all establishments; Rs192 per hour fixed for daily wagers

The Sindh government has issued an official notification establishing a new minimum monthly wage of Rs40,000 for unskilled workers employed in both industrial and commercial sectors across the province. The updated wage policy, which came into effect on July 1, 2025, also includes revised pay scales for skilled and semi-skilled workers. As reported by The Express Tribune.

Provincial Labour Minister Shahid Abdul Salam Thaheem formally announced the revised wage framework, stating that the changes were part of the government’s broader efforts to protect labour rights and offset the effects of inflation.

As per the notification, semi-skilled workers will now earn Rs41,380, skilled workers will receive Rs49,628, and highly skilled workers will be paid a monthly wage of Rs51,745. The new wage slabs are applicable to both registered and unregistered establishments, and ensure equal pay for male and female workers performing the same tasks.

For establishments paying workers on a daily or hourly basis, a minimum hourly wage of Rs192 has been made mandatory. This clause is aimed at protecting the growing number of workers in informal or part-time employment structures.

“The revision of the minimum wage is a significant step towards alleviating the economic burden on workers, helping them cope with the rising cost of living,” said Thaheem, reaffirming the provincial government’s pro-labour policy stance.

He emphasized that the Labour Department is in regular consultation with industrial stakeholders and that strict enforcement of labour laws will be ensured across the province to guarantee compliance.

Thaheem also added that this new wage structure reflects the Sindh government’s intention to safeguard fair compensation, improve working conditions, and promote dignity in employment amidst a challenging economic environment.
