Adani Group unveils India’s largest battery energy storage project

1,126 MW / 3,530 MWh system to deploy over 700 containers; full commissioning by March 2026

Adani Group has announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a 1,126-megawatt (MW) / 3,530-megawatt-hour (MWh) project — the largest such installation in India and one of the world’s biggest single-location storage deployments.

The project, comprising more than 700 BESS containers, is scheduled for commissioning by March 2026. The installation will be located at Khavda, home to the world’s largest renewable energy plant.

The lithium-ion-based system will be integrated with advanced energy management technology to enhance grid stability, reduce solar curtailment, and manage peak demand more efficiently.

Adani said the BESS will play a key role in enabling round-the-clock clean electricity and supporting India’s transition to a low-carbon energy future.

“Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future,” said Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. “With this historic project, we are setting global benchmarks and reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability.”

Building on the Khavda project, Adani plans to scale its storage capacity to 15 gigawatt-hours (GWh) by March 2027 and 50 GWh over the next five years. The company said the expansion aligns with India’s net-zero ambitions and aims to create a resilient, future-ready energy infrastructure.

Headquartered in Ahmedabad, the Adani Group operates across multiple sectors including energy, transport, logistics, metals, and consumer businesses. The group said the new initiative marks a major milestone in its clean energy portfolio and India’s broader energy transition strategy.
