Pakistan and Saudi Arabia discussed new maritime investments during the International Maritime Organization Assembly in London.
Federal Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry proposed three initiatives: a partnership between Pakistan National Shipping Corporation and Saudi Arabia’s Albehri shipping line; increased business-to-business cooperation; and a sister-port agreement linking Karachi Port Trust with Jeddah Islamic Port.
The Saudi delegation said it would share a draft memorandum of understanding to formalize long-term cooperation. Officials noted interest from Red Sea Gateway Terminal in Pakistan’s port infrastructure.
Existing collaboration in shipping, port development, and maritime training was also reviewed. Training for Pakistani seafarers, including onboard placements on Saudi vessels, was discussed to boost skills and employment.
Discussions were aligned with Pakistan’s Maritime Vision 2047, aimed at modernizing ports, expanding shipping capacity, and attracting foreign investment.
