Pakistan’s mobile handset manufacturing industry produced 30.21 million units in 2025, according to industry data released Tuesday, compared to 2.37 million units imported commercially, reflecting continued expansion of local production capacity.
The figure for total production includes all mobile phones assembled in the country over the calendar year, with local brands contributing a significant portion of the output, industry officials said. Locally assembled mobile phones came out 2.61 million units compared to only 0.33 million imported commercially.
Data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) shows that 71% of mobile devices used in Pakistan are smartphones, while the remaining 29% are 2G devices. The continued shift toward smartphones underpins the demand for mobile production within the country.
The domestic industry has benefitted from various government incentives and infrastructure improvements, allowing both local and international manufacturers to expand their production capacity. This growth has the potential to reduce Pakistan's reliance on imports and strengthen the local electronics sector.
Domestic production in 2025 surpassed the previous year’s level, driven by increased demand for locally manufactured devices as well as investments from companies focused on expanding their assembly lines in Pakistan.
However, despite the rise in local production, mobile imports have increased sharply in the first five months of the 2025‑26 fiscal year. According to official data, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $801.14 million from July to November 2025, up from $570.18 million in the same period of the previous year. This represents a 40.51% year‑on‑year increase in import value.
