World Bank and Punjab Revenue Authority agree plan to digitalise tax collection

The World Bank and the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) agreed on a joint plan to fully digitalise the province’s tax collection system during a meeting in Lahore between a World Bank delegation and the PRA chairman.

The discussions covered steps toward a cashless economy and expansion of digital initiatives within the tax regime, with the PRA emphasising efforts to facilitate the services sector in adopting digital payments.

Under the agreed plan, the PRA’s electronic tax system will be linked with the Punjab Information Technology Board database to streamline tax operations.

The PRA has introduced measures offering up to 11% tax relief for consumers in the hotel and restaurant sector on transactions made through debit and credit cards to encourage digital payments.

The World Bank delegation welcomed the reform agenda and committed to providing practical cooperation in implementing the agreed digitalisation measures.
