At a time when Pakistan’s economy faces persistent balance-of-payments pressures, export-led growth is no longer optional. It is essential. In this context, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif took the lead in honoring the largest exporters from different industries at an elegant ceremony held with a select group of Chairpersons and CEOs.
Getz Pharma was one of the 30 companies recognized for being the highest exporter in pharmaceuticals in 2025. The company has been part of State Bank’s list of top 50 exporters, currently 33rd overall, and is the largest taxpayer, employer and investor in the pharmaceutical industry. It has been receiving the FPCCI award for being the top exporter in the pharmaceutical sector for the last 19 consecutive years and is the only company in Pakistan to have this honor.
Founded in 1995, Getz Pharma became Pakistan’s leading pharmaceutical company within just 15 years of inception. It has been steadily building its exports by raising standards to meet the most demanding international benchmarks. Its success in global markets is rooted in an unwavering commitment to quality and compliance, reflected in accreditations from leading regulatory agencies of regulated markets, including the World Health Organisation-Geneva, Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and PIC/S. Every pack exported to more than 45 countries is manufactured at Getz Pharma’s internationally accredited and approved facilities at Karachi.
This export leadership is the result of sustained vision and bold investment decisions. Over the past 15 years, Getz Pharma has invested nearly PKR 50 billion in cutting‑edge manufacturing plants, quality management systems, and advanced technologies. Getz Pharma is the first company in Pakistan that set up a Biotechnology Manufacturing Facility in 2007, where it manufactured the first Human Insulin (Insuget) and Insulin Analogues (Basagin) in Pakistan. The company remained the only manufacturer of insulin in Pakistan for over 17 years.
In 2024, the company met another major milestone by expanding its Biotechnology facility, where it is producing GIP and GLP-1 Receptor Agonist (RA) biosimilars, which is a monumental innovation to treat obesity and metabolic diseases.
In its new biotechnology facility, the company is producing and marketing Sem-P (injectable Semaglutide) in easy-to-use pens and vials, Sem-O (oral Semaglutide tablet), and Tirzee (Tirzepatide) in a single-dose auto-injector pen for unmatched patient convenience and efficacy. All of Getz Pharma’s GLP-1 and GIP RA biosimilars are produced, bio-assayed and are peptide mapped for bio similarity, and are independently verified by accredited international laboratories.
As Pakistan charts a course toward sustainable economic growth, Getz Pharma’s journey offers a powerful lesson. When local companies invest decisively in technology, innovation, infrastructure, and human capital, they not only succeed at home but also compete globally, earning vital foreign exchange and strengthening the nation’s prosperity. Getz Pharma exemplifies this vision and demonstrates how progress built on innovation, values, excellence, and resilience can brighten Pakistan’s future.
