Saudi Arabia eyes investment in Pakistan’s M-10 motorway, ministers discuss connectivity

LAHORE (Monitoring Desk):Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in investing in Pakistan’s M-10 Motorway project, Pakistan’s communications ministry said, after a meeting between Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Saudi Minister for Transport and Logistics Saleh Bin Nasser Al-Jasser on the sidelines of the OIC Conference in Istanbul.

Abdul Aleem Khan invited the Saudi government to participate in the M-10 project, which includes a new alignment linking Karachi Port with Hyderabad, and said Pakistan was seeking public-private partnerships with Saudi Arabia to modernise its transport infrastructure.

The Saudi minister said the Kingdom was keen to modernise Pakistan’s communications sector and increase flight operations to Pakistan, while underscoring the importance of digitalisation and road surveillance in modern transport systems.

According to an official statement, the two sides also discussed enhancing cooperation in transport, maritime affairs and regional connectivity, as well as promoting trade corridors and collaboration among OIC member states.

Separately, Abdul Aleem Khan met SESRIC Director General Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk to discuss cooperation in agriculture, Islamic banking and capacity building among OIC countries. The two sides agreed to initiate joint research programmes and specialised training workshops to support socio-economic development.
