National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has approved a Rs 0.35 per unit increase in electricity tariffs for three months, allowing distribution companies and K-Electric to recover Rs 8.67 billion from consumers during March to May under quarterly adjustments for the second quarter of FY2025-26.
In its determination issued on Tuesday, the regulator allowed a uniform positive adjustment of Rs 0.3504 per kilowatt-hour for all consumer categories, excluding lifeline consumers, users billed under the incremental consumption package and prepaid customers. Nepra said the adjustment will also apply to K-Electric consumers.
Nepra said the quarterly adjustment reflects changes in capacity charges, variable operations and maintenance costs, use of system charges and market operator fees. It also cited the impact of fuel cost adjustments on transmission and distribution losses and recovery of prior-period payables on incremental units for the October to December period.
Ex-Wapda distribution companies had sought approval to recover Rs 10.83 billion for the quarter. They had claimed Rs 24.24 billion in capacity charges, according to the determination.
Nepra said the claim was partially offset by Rs 13.41 billion in negative adjustments linked to operations and maintenance, system charges, market operator fees, transmission and distribution losses and the incremental consumption package.
After netting the components, the regulator reduced the amount allowed for recovery to Rs 8.67 billion, which will be collected through the Rs 0.3504 per unit quarterly adjustment from March through May.
