MG Motor Pakistan has announced a $20 million investment to expand its vehicle manufacturing facility in Lahore, saying the upgrade will support new model launches and bring additional automotive technologies to its local operations, according to a news report.
In a statement, the company said the investment is backed by its parent, SAIC Motor, and is aimed at increasing production capacity, strengthening the local automotive supply chain and creating jobs.
MG Motor Pakistan chief executive Shao JianQiang said the expansion is part of the company’s longer-term plans in Pakistan and reflects its expectations for the domestic auto market. He said the investment would also support deeper localisation and could help the company position for export opportunities in the future.
MG said it has grown its footprint in Pakistan’s new energy vehicle segment since entering the market, introducing models from its global lineup alongside local assembly.
SAIC Motor executives, the company said, view Pakistan as an important emerging market in the group’s international strategy, citing demographics and demand trends for newer vehicle offerings.
