PSX adds over 25,000 new investor accounts in April

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) added 25,114 new investor accounts in April 2026, reflecting continued retail participation in the equity market.

PSX said the increase in account openings indicated growing investor interest supported by digital onboarding systems and easier access to market participation.

Data released by the exchange showed strong participation from Gen Z and millennial investors, highlighting increasing engagement of younger individuals in stock market investments.

Market participants said technology-driven investment platforms and simplified account opening procedures were encouraging more first-time investors to enter the market.

The exchange noted that Sahulat accounts and regular accounts recorded nearly equal participation during the month.

Sahulat accounts, introduced to simplify investment procedures through reduced documentation and lower entry barriers, continued to contribute to broader market access.

According to the data, Punjab and Sindh remained the largest contributors to new investor registrations, reflecting relatively higher levels of financial inclusion and larger population bases.

The increase in retail investor participation comes as policymakers and market institutions continue efforts to improve economic documentation and channel savings into formal financial markets.

Analysts said rising investor onboarding could support long-term market depth and liquidity if accompanied by investor education, transparency and regulatory stability.

Market observers also noted that expanding outreach beyond major urban centres could help further increase participation in Pakistan’s equity market.
