Kuwait and Pakistan have agreed to explore opportunities for developing strategic petroleum storage facilities in Pakistan, as the two countries move to expand cooperation in refining and energy security.
The understanding was reached during a meeting in Islamabad between Ali Pervaiz Malik and Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
The two sides reviewed regional developments and discussed ways to deepen bilateral collaboration in the petroleum sector, with particular focus on strategic fuel reserves and refining.
Malik thanked the Kuwaiti government for facilitating the dispatch of the vessel Khairpur, which delivered emergency fuel supplies to Pakistan after shipping disruptions linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The vessel carried about 45,000 tons of diesel and 10,000 tons of jet fuel under special approvals, helping Pakistan maintain fuel supplies during a period of heightened regional uncertainty.
The minister said Pakistan remained committed to regional peace and stability and noted that the effects of the conflict were being felt well beyond the immediate area.
Ambassador Almutairi praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and said the country’s constructive role had strengthened its standing in the international community.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations and pursue new areas of cooperation in the petroleum and energy sectors.
