Govt gives no clarity on Super Tax withdrawal in FY27 budget

During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance on Thursday, the government did not confirm whether it planned to withdraw the Super Tax in the upcoming FY2026-27 budget.

Committee members asked Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani about the possibility of removing the Super Tax in the next budget, but he did not give a direct confirmation or denial.

Kayani acknowledged that the corporate sector continued to face a high tax burden and said the government wanted to reduce pressure on businesses.

He informed the committee that the relevant ministry and the Tax Policy Office were actively consulting traders and retailers regarding taxation issues and budget proposals.

The Senate panel also discussed the broader impact of the Super Tax on economic activity and business confidence.
