Pakistan on Friday received its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Qatar within three days as authorities intensified efforts to stabilise energy supplies amid regional disruptions linked to the US-Israel war with Iran.
The LNG carrier Mihzem, carrying around 160,000 cubic metres of LNG, arrived at Pakistan GasPort Consortium Limited’s Terminal-1 at Port Qasim, Karachi.
Earlier this week, the Q-Flex LNG vessel Al Kharaitiyat docked at the Engro LNG terminal on May 13. Engro Elengy Terminal Limited said it had received and started offloading the largest liquefied natural gas cargo ever handled in Pakistan at its terminal in Port Qasim.
According to the company, the Q-Flex vessel, carrying more than 210,000 cubic metres of LNG, arrived at the terminal on Wednesday, May 13.
Engro Elengy said the operation involved a dual-parcel discharge process and was carried out while managing tidal and draft constraints at Port Qasim.
Officials confirmed that both LNG terminals had commenced regasification operations and were injecting regasified LNG into the national transmission network to support electricity generation and industrial consumption.
According to officials, the two cargoes were secured under long-term arrangements at a price equivalent to 13.37% of Brent crude oil.
The deliveries arrived at a time when spot LNG prices in international markets have climbed above $17 per MMBtu due to geopolitical tensions and supply uncertainty in the region.
Government officials said Pakistan was currently in discussions with Qatari authorities to arrange two additional LNG cargoes to meet rising summer energy demand.
The move follows disruptions earlier this year when several LNG cargoes loaded in the Gulf region became stranded after the escalation of the regional conflict on February 28, 2026.
